Habitat for Humanity
July 2nd we hosted the bike group riding cross-country to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity.
We are an annual stop for this group and while the faces and names of the riders change, the commitment
remains strong.  We fed them supper...thanks to Morita, Ethel, Jo Frewen and Jim.  As usual we had spaghetti
with vegetable sauce, meat sauce, salad, bread, cookies, and ice cream. It was a great group of young people.
They were riding from San Francisco to Washington, D.C.  They enjoyed the Thrift Store, the Library, the showers at the Roadside Park, sleeping in the church and supper.  After supper they toured Jim's garden
went to the bowling alley and had massages from Bruce.

Bike and Build Group -

Ruth Milliken
The bicycle riders came from Oberlin to St. Francis and will travel to Akron, Colorado tomorrow.  They began their trip after each rider applied, was accepted and earned $4,000.00 for the trip, from the Atlantic Ocean and will complete the trip in July at Cannon Beach, Oregon.  They were a remarkable group of young people.  They seemed to enjoy St. Francis and the warm hospitality they have experienced in Kansas.  They have helped to build houses for Habitat for Humanity in Kansas City, Manhattan as well as some other places.  They gave an informative program, asked many questions about this area and generally were a delightful group.  Thanks to Eddie and Sherry Schultz for coming and helping to serve the group.  Thanks to Ethel Whitten for providing the bread.  Thanks to Kari and Molly Gilliland for helping to serve.  Thanks to Althea and the Weight Watcher's for sharing the space so that this could work!!!
